That Fall Feeling
Nov 29, 2023After the success of the campaign in September, we planned our next two-day shoot in Oakland with the hero family. Days before, we were hit by Covid! Feeling sensitive and disoriented, we cancelled the weekend in our historic home to re-focus.
On October 7th and 8th, we filmed one climactic scene in two locations. New cast members joined and contributed a fresh energy to the set. The picturesque home we’d been waiting months to film in inspired the cast and crew.
A couple of Wednesdays later, we gathered in a sunflower field. With blue skies and ocean waves present, our environment stimulated liveliness and beauty. Between a skeleton crew and a few unexpected contingencies, our October shoots were sometimes long and tremulous. Still, the productions were never lacking in creative spontaneity and good conversation.
Gathering everyone in the same place at the same time has been a challenge this last half of the year. Still unresolved about the missed shoot dates from September, our production timeline shifts into 2024.
Despite the ambiguity, we’re very clear on other aspects of our progress. First, the footage captured is dynamic and entertaining. We are proud of the quality of our work. Second, our crew and cast reflect a satisfying level of familiarity and ease due to our time spent together this year. Finally, we’ve reviewed a second draft of the film, delivered critiques, and offered ideas to realize its formation.
The short film, like the character of Greg, has morphed into a bigger creature than we ever could have imagined over the past twelve months. The shape of which is coming into view and will be revealed soon.
